2 Weapons

Ahh, weapons.
I'll bet the thought just brought a smile to your face. This is
the favorite subject of any Tribal warrior. Here you will find
detailed information of every weapon carried by the warriors themselves.
Whatever role you fulfill in the Tribes 2 universe, intimate knowledge
of your weapons is vital to your success. You may be temped to
skip this section and jump right to Map Tips or Roles. Resist
the urge! Those sections are supplemental to the Armor, Packs
and Weapons sections. These three will lay the ground work for
success in Tribes 2. Knowing advanced tactics are useless if you
do not have a firm grasp of the basics. For you doubters out there,
I assure you that this is not yet another regurgitation of the
limited descriptions contained in the game manual.
Before we
get to the weapons themselves I would like to define the classifications
used for weapons on this sight. Tribes 2 weapons come in 3 varieties:
Direct Fire, Indirect Fire, and Special Use. Direct Fire weapons
fire projectiles in a straight line at high velocities (not instantaneous).
Indirect Fire weapons fire slow projectiles that are subjected
to the effect of gravity. These projectiles travel in an arc much
like a basketball as you shoot. Special Use are weapons that have
characteristics that do not fit within the first two categories.
All of these weapons share characteristics with one of the previous
groups, but are different enough that they can not be classified
in the same way.

The following
charts show the relative difference between each weapon along
a few different axioms. As well as a subjective destriptor for
a single or grouping of weapons. Each chart starts with the best
value to the left and progesses to the worst on the right. The
general notes after each chart will list if there is an abnormally
large jump in values from one weapon to the next in line.

General Notes:
The Laser Rifle is not listed here due to the way the gun operates.
Please see the Laser Rifle page for more info. There is a large
break in the speed difference between the Blaster and the Plasma
Rifle.

with a Shocklance is insta-kill on any player.
**Head shot with a Laser Rifle bumps damage up to between Missile
Launcher and Shocklance.
General Notes: There is a significant difference in damage between
the Mortar and the Missile Launcher. The ELF Gun does not do damage
in the normal sense, please see its description for more detail.

*The Chaingun
is listed at this range because of the cone of fire spread. The
bullets technically go much further, but hitting beyond this range
is blind luck.
General Notes:
There is an enormous drop off in range between the Blaster and
Fusion Mortar.

General Notes:
I suppose this goes without saying, but I should mention it anyways,
there is a world of difference between the instantaneous and very
fast travel speeds. There is also a large drop off between Very
Fast and Fast. The same goes for Average to Slow.
