Etherfast Cable / DSL Router
Page 2 OK here's what I'm going to do... I'm going to go through the process with you and grab a wackload of screen shots so that you can take a boo at them First off you have to access the unit. How would you do that?! it's as easy as 1. 2. 3. THIS IS A MUST! You have to set your TCP/IP to either obtain automatically (I.E. Cable modem setup) or set it to 192.168.1.# where # is a number from 2 - 253 one you have the above done the next step is the setup. With your browser... YES that's right your browser goto 192.168.1.1 you should see a screen the looks like this OK now what?! Well enter admin for the password and you will be sent to here. This is the main setup page. You will notice that you can set the IP of the unit or leave it to obtain automatically you can also tell it what IP you would like it to be. (e.g. you can see that I have it set to 192.168.1.10 for this trial) If you look at the top of the page you can see that you can enter a host name and a domain name (for those ISP's that do it that way) but the best is the PPPoE. PPPoE stands for Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet. This is the little beast that allows you to share the web over the LAN on ANY OS! From there we want to change the password for the unit. (well no shit!) if you press on the "password" tab on the top of the page you get here. This is not to hard to figure out. It's the place where you change the password Kingpin! Very good class! One word of warning though at the bottom you see a "Restore Factory Defaults: " setting... Unless you want to setup the whole thing again DO NOT CLICK HERE! DUH! So what to check on the little baby... see what IP you got from your ISP? maybe get the DNS server address? Click on the status tab and you should see this now for obvious reasons I took out my IP and MAC address's but as you can see you get all the skinny and what your IP is and the DNS servers, etc. You can even DHCP Release and Renew to get a new address if you need to. So that's it you have it all set up and ready to go. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE AND NOW IT GETS GOOD!
