| Weapons
Ohhh yeah. Tons of guns. Some very sweet hardware to play
with here. Tripmines, (Can you say multiplayer mayhem? I knew
you could.) grenades, rocket launchers, sniper rifles, pistol,
flechette cannons, gun emplacements, wookie bowcasters...
The list runs on and on. There's something for everyone here,
and then some. And of course.... The oft mentioned light saber.
It slices, it dices! It dismembers enemies, and you can even
open a locked door with it! Heh. You can also use it to automatically
block most incoming blaster shots. In fact, you can deflect
them back and kill the shooter. Very amusing. Most of the
weapons in the game have an alternate fire, a la Unreal Tourney.
The light saber can be thrown and summoned back. (Have to
watch it in duels though, an enemy jedi can knock it away
from you.) The flechette cannon fires two explosive projectiles.
And the blaster rifle? Ahhh.... You wondered why the Storm
Troopers in the movies can't hit anything? You'd figure that
the empire's elite highly skilled troops SHOULD be able to
hit things. It's not their training, it's the damned E11 Blaster
Rifle. What an inaccurate piece of crap.
Force Powers
Ohhh yeah x2 baby! Force jump to defeat those annoying
jumping puzzles. Force lightening to deep fry those pesky
enemies. My persona favorite, force grip. (Remember Vader
at the start of the first movie? heh.) Force heal. Force push
people off cliffs. (Oh yes.) Tons more interesting toys here,
although force push and pull lead to some more rather annoying
puzzles with hidden entrances you usually find by accident.
One of the things that makes these games so damned cool. :)
As you move through the levels you'll gain more powers and
your skill in your current powers will increase, making you
more effective.
AI
Ummm.
Well, not too bad. Some enemies even snipe at you, which makes
some of the larger maps especially deadly and difficult. The
Dark Jedi are excellent at countering your force moves, and
coming up with their own. (I've never been able to knock one
to his death however, it seems to me that the computer cheats
and leaps them back onto catwalks and such to prevent such
an end.) Most of the enemies however seem to adopt the "run
at him shooting" approach. I usually hate this, but in
this case it makes saber work easier. And when you're using
a saber "disarming" your opponent takes on a whole
new meaning. I've also noticed that if you take out a pile
of opponents leaving one alive, he'll usually turn and run.
There's been a few times I've seen Stormtroopers get stuck
in crouch mode, usually on staircases. They just crouch and
walk down, oblivious to the firefight going on around them.
Enemies
It's
amazing how so many people don't like our protagonist Kyle,
and in fact want him dead. Rodian crime lords, Imperial Officers
and Storm Troopers, AT-ST walker drivers, Dark Jedi and their
apprentices, bounty hunters, and a wide variety of other scum...
Most of the bad guys from the movies are represented here
in all their slimy glory.
Multiplayer
There's
a wide variety of multiplayer modes for your gaming pleasure,
including Free for All, Team Deathmatch, Holocron Free For
All (Where you must collect force powers around the map.)
Capture the Flag, Duel (When you have a series of one on one
saber duels while the other players sit in observer. The winner
continues to the next duel.) and Capture the Yysalamiri. (When
you have the ysalamiri, you cannot use your force powers,
but neither can anyone us their powers against you. It's interesting.)
Players set their model and force powers at the start of the
match, and can change their alignment and powers as they see
fit. The dev team has some preset configs set up, or make
your own. My personal fav game so far is CTF.
There's
a wide variety of maps to play on for all game types. Hopefully
the game takes off, and people start releasing their own maps.
We'll have to see how long the multiplayer keeps me interested,
thus far it's one hell of a lot of fun. |
