Multiplayer Demo

Bug Report

Well, now we get to the evil and bad part of the game. The first few days were great. I could play on quite a few servers without a huge number of issues. The things that did happen were (in no particular order!): Crashes to desktop (or in this case, Gamespy Arcade Top), unable to connect to servers, getting kicked after 5 minutes (this one is REALLY common.), lag spikes....... And then things got worse.

For the past week or so, the damned game has been completely unplayable. Assuming I _CAN_ connect to any servers, I'm so lagged out the game is completely unplayable. Part of the problem is that there don't seem to be many dedicated servers on true high speed connections. Too damned many people with listen servers on cable and DSL..... Dunno, everyone I've talked to lately has been having the same problems. They have been releasing regular patches, but they don't seem to have helped anything on my end.

There's a new patch that just came out, we'll be trying it in the next day or so, and we'll let you know how it works. According to the patch info, it fixes the lag. I hope to hell so, considering the full version is due out in a few days.

* UPDATE FEB 26.2002 *

Seems there's one HELL of a lot less lag with the new patch. Played on 6 servers last night just to try, and it was good. 'cept on the 30-32 player servers.. Still some lag there. The lag in this game is very annoying as well, what with 70 ton tanks just teleporting around.

Conclusions

When it works, it's a completely kick ass game.. One hell of an imersive experiance, with sweet guns, vehicles and fun..... WHEN being the operative word. I've sent the game to a number of people, and many of them have simply given up trying to play... Hopefully the bugs will be worked out soon...... It's the mutiplayer component that gives a game life. Single player is all well and fine, but uh... Who the hell plays Half Life or Quake 3 single player anymore?
