May 1/00 - May 16/00
May 16/00 - Marauder - Jmuff emailed yesterday with an interesting idea.. Perhaps have a section on the site for Canadian gaming news? Might be an interesting thing to do! We'll be holding off the open meeting untill May 25th, 6pm. I'll have the webcam/audio working then so you a few internet peeps can join in the meeting if you care to. :) Sorry for the lack of updates in the last little while, we've all been really busy with life and such.. Big lightning storm on the weekend, so I'm fixing lots of zotted computers. Speaking of which, must go fix more zotted computers. Marauder out!
May 10/00 - Marauder - Uncertain of what to do with the site between Big LAN Parties... Thinking of starting to mess around with news, reviews, smaller LAN party news, that sort of thing.... Suggestions or ideas? Lemme know. :) Should have those thrice accursed tourney ladders posted today, just waiting for Red Leader to send them in to me.
May 10/00 - Marauder - Just sent the demos/screenshots/pics of the party over to Pappy-R at Planet Quake. He's apparently doing a little write up on the party that'll be posted later this week. Check it out.
May 9/00 - Marauder - Thanks to Fon-Fon and Skeezix for sending in their suggestions. Much appreciated guys!
May 8/00 - Marauder - New pics up on the PICS page. Check 'em out. Some setup pics, some champion pics, a pic of Tribes Team Canada some other stuff. News archives pages started.
May 8/00 - Marauder - Do'oh. Sorry for the lack of updates on the site guys. We got absolutely swamped trying to get the tourneys up and finished at the party. Since I was doing the tourney player chasing/announcing/helping with ther servers/web site updates, I just ran flat out of time. The local server got updated, the web one did not. (sigh) Then I ended up leaving early due to illness. Feeling a little better after many hours of sleep. I'll be posting a recap on the tournaments/party overall likely tomorrow. The demos somehow never got uploaded to the site, but they are up now. (Sorry Pappy!) More demos as soon as they get emailed in by the spectators. I'd just like to thank everyone who came, was nice meeting some of the people I've heard about (Tuco), the folks I've been talking to (J-Muff, Greg70, That Gay Superman guy), people I've been seeing on Tribes servers for about a year now (Zul, Kinetic Poet, Made in Canada, etc etc.) Thanks for coming. Hope everyone had a good time, sorry I had to bail and miss the last few games. :( Also hoped to have some more time to play games, especially CTF Tribes. (Played exactly 0 games all weekend) Thanks to Pappy-R and Nirox for giving us suggestions and help. Pappy-R especially was great. He donated quite a number of Game-Spy/Radio Spy registrations and was an amazing help with the map changes and servers. He helped me out quite a bit with the Quake III FFA Tourney server in the morning, getting it up and running and writing up the configuration files. He was absolutely great! (He also spanked Kingpin at Quake III which was highly amusing.) Thanks to all the staff members. Dopper was great helping out with the servers and tournaments, Red Leader did a great job with the tourney score keeping and the web page, Gezer did a great job with the web server/DHCP server & the projection screeen (Sweeet, sweet proj screens! Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm....), Skotos' PA system worked out really well, he also ran the Tribes duel tourney, Rune helped with the spectating of the matches and setup, Praetorian showed off his mad photoshop skillz with the badges and helped out Mr. E. Mahn with the registration & spectating, Iceman and Mr. also ran the Starcraft tourney. Thanks to Darksiege for his help, and to his buddies who helped out during the take down. Goshwin didn't come to help, but was great in helping us with the cabling and power. Thanks guys!
We are doing this party again next year, but we will need a few things.
A) More people to help out. We were getting a little short on staffing to handle everything and everyone.
B) Some rules to handle unexpected circumstances, such as one player showing up and beating on everyone. (Ex. a one championship only rule perhaps?)
C) Suggestions from our attendees this year. What did you like and dislike? Do you have any ideas of what could have been done differently? Email them HERE. We'll be having an open meeting May 24th at the VAM Computers location, 6pm. Everyone is welcome to attend, we'll be talking about the party, plans for the future and the next party, what can be improved etc. Meeting will be up on Netmeeting if you care to join in remotely. Will post connect IP. We're doing all this stuff for the players, so let us know what you think!
D) Better scheduling on the tourney start times.
Anyhows, more news, demos and the tournament scores later today or tomorrow.
Again, thanks to everyone who attended!
Marauder out.
May 6/00 - Marauder - 7pm - Almost ready to start the Quake II and Quake III-1 on 1 Tourneys. Just updating the PICS part of the site with some photos we've snagged. Will be posting a demo of KP and Pappy-R if you want a giggle. :)
May 6/00 - Marauder - 6pm - OK, everyone's gone for dinner, so the Linux Penguin have taken over the web cam. Needless to say, Kingpin got his ass kicked rather handily by Pappy-R in QuakeIII... But then again, he is the Planet Quake guy!!
May 6/00 - Marauder - 5 pm - Kingpin Vs. [xeno] Pappy-R, the humiliation of Kingpin continues now on web-cam live!! :)
May 6/00 - Marauder - Just starting to have a little time to update the site! :) Well, the UT tournament is well under way. Will post the score for all the games shortly. :) Turn out so far has been pretty decent, we've got roughly 60 players in attendance right now. Will post some photos tonight as well. Sorry for the lack of updates guy, busy with the tournaments, a few server hitches and of course the inevetable power issues when this many computer get together. Pappy-R from Planet Quake is sitting just down the row in the staff area watching Quake III matches. :) Tribes Team Canada is here, playing some CTF and picking on the poor non-team Canada players. It's rather funny listening to [xeno] Dy-Syng go "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!" every time anyone kills him. :)
May 4/00 - Marauder - We will also be able to take Interac, Visa & Amex at the party for those of you who care to use them. :)
May 4/00 - Marauder - To quote the good book: "And he did raise his cable modem on high, and lo: there was high speed internet, and he looked upon it and it was good." Nolman's cable modem seems to work just peachy over at the curling club, so we will have an internet feed for the web site updates. Yay! We'll hopefully have a more-or-less live web cam posted on the web site for you guys who can't make it to oggle, and we'll be posting live updates to the site thoughout the weekend. Check the "games" link for the ladder updates and screen shots, movies etc. Dopper was talking to Pappy-R, and it sounds like he going to make it up. Should be cool..................... Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. LANning..... I swear that during the weekend, sooner or later I'm going to find the time to play some games... It'll be a pathetic showing, considering how long it's been since I had time to practise, but damn it, I'm gonna try. :) Hey! I know what we'll do... "Step right up! Spank Marauder at your game of choice, win a prize! Step right up!" Heheh...
May 3/00 - Marauder - Hey hey! Pappy-R from Planet Quake has expressed an intrest in attending FRAGtopia to cover the event. That'd be cool, eh? :) More people signing up, quite a few paying ahead of time as well. Doing all the final running around, getting players kits ready, final prep on the servers, etc etc. ARGH! So many details, so little time.... Final schedule for the tournaments will be posted tomorrow here in the news, for all you guys who keep emailing me... Be patient for one more day. Just for the Starcraft tournament, we've come up with a great prize. The ultimate accelerator card for all your RTS needs... a shiney new..................... 1 MEG S3 TRIO 64V+ ISA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY! (heh. sorry, just had to do that.) We'll also be having mini-tourneys with lesser prizes throughout the weekend. Should be a riot. Bascially I'm getting all worked up here guys. This is going to be one cool weekend. :) Looking forward to it!
May 2/00 - Marauder - Yawwwwwwwwwwnnnn.... Up till 10:30 Sunday working on the server machines.....Cables are done (*&^$#*&@^#$ cables), servers are pretty well done and tested, tourney schedules are completed, DHCP server up and running, web server works great, name tags are in the proccess of printing.... Prizes are here and ready to roll.. (Hmmmmm. GeFORCE good!) The dlink 10/100 24 port met my expectations. So very, very sweet. :) Getting the key for the arena today. And now we all wait... 4 long.. Slow days...... Too darned long. It's doing to be great, we hope. :) Looking forward to meeting everyone I've been yaking with all these months, and those I've played with. Cyah then!
