Damn @home. Came home Thurdays night, and after a few router and modem restarts it started working. Good thing for them, as I wasn't too happy and most likely would have sat most angrily on hold for a few hours before going to bed in a most disgruntled manner. Oh, and it looks like the actualy @home is DOA..... There's a little press release on it here, and Dman just got an email from Rogers. Sucks if you use your @home email addy for work I guess! I'm currently working on a new design for the site for launch on our second anniversary in a few weeks. We've really only been working hardcore on the site for the last 12 months or so, but it has actually been damned near 2 years since I posted the first piece of news about the big LAN party on here. The new design is prettier, easier to navigate, more bandwidth friendly and much easier for our guys to post news on, so you should see much more regular news posts. (Assuming I get everything sorted out and working. ;) Everyone who's seen the new site likes it, other than Kingpin. He informs me he doesn't like it. I informed him he could go to hell. It's all good. :)

Had an hour long discusion last night with an @home tech as to exectly why my router wasn't getting an IP address any longer...... Naturally it was my equipment, my NIC, my OS that was the problem... Like HELL it was. Suprise of suprises everything works great here at work, exactly as I predicted it would. You know, with the amount of time that cable modems have been out, you'd really think that they'd work right by now... I mean, it's not like it's a new technology or anything.

But it seems to me almost to be a tradition of fun and frivolity. Roughly every two or three months I'm down for a day or so, I sit on hold for a few hours, talk to some f(*&*(&g minimum wage idiot who calls himself a "tech" and guess what? In the last 3 years 100% of the time it's been something on their end. Always! I've been right 100% of the time. That's a pretty good score for me and my gear, and doesn't say one hell of a lot about Shogers and THEIR gear, which seems to be, for lack of a better word "shit"

I'm so angry right now, I can hardly type. It's a good thing I'm a nice guy, or I'd be down camping the respawns at the Rogers head office this morning, waiting for a rail shot on 'ol Teddy. Grrrrrrr.....

Rogue Spear: Black Thorn review is up. Not a bad game, not bad atall! Of course, with Ghost Recon coming out soon, it'll only tide you over for a few weeks untill the big fella arrives....... Speaking of GR, a few buddies of mine online have gotten their hot little hands on the beta, and apparently it r0x0rz their b0x0rz. Can hardly wait. :)

Just got informed by Rune that... Suprise! ATI has been lying to the public again. Check out the way that they've been tweaking their drivers out to get better benchmarks on Quake III. ATI, rather than actually putting out a good product has a sorid history of doing this sort of thing. Overclocking cards that get sent to reviewers and such. Now this. Cute guys... Really cute. How about we try to compete fairly, and stop trying to screw over the public? Might be an idea. Viva La nVidia.

Many thanks to Umopapisdn for a link to some Tshirts that I must have, especially the "winmodem" one near the middle. I've wasted SO much time troubleshooting these POS little things, and the answer inevitably is "Go get a hardware modem." :) Heh.

Darksiege sent me a link to this one a while back. Interesting, but not a whole hellofalotta details... Looks like it's an actual 3D display. As in, like a holograph type of 3D.

Lately I've been playing with this new Ballistics demo that just came out. For an arcade game it's not bad! Of course if you have a Geforce 3 you can really crank the details as supposably it's optimized for it but even if you don't the graphics are still pretty amazing. The gameplay reminds me of Wipeout but inside of tunnels. The control scheme seems to be simplier than Wipeout though. It consists of mostly avoiding objects and traps and going really really fast.

Speed is a good thing. I haven't seen this type of speed in a sci-fi racer since that Star Wars Pod Racer game. Hey, I know that everybody ragged on that Pod Racer game but gimme a break ok? Nothing was more fun than tweaking your pod to the limit and going 900 Mph. The only downside was that if your pod so much as lightly brushed anything else at that speed it would disintegrate instantly.

Marauder is hooked on that Dark Age of Crack/Camelot to the point where I'm sure that he wouldn't leave his house except for that whole silly little job thing. Well, he'll see lots of the inside and outside of his new house this weekend as the Mrs is puttin' him to work on it. Likewise Gezerman and Dopper appear to be hooked on this thing but so far I'm admirably resisting temptation. After all, I'm sure that playing DAoC 24/7 wouldn't exactly be conductive to getting much schoolwork done. Must not give in.... must not give in...

Ghost Reacon should be out anytime now. I'm ready to give the whole Rainbox Six series another try. I got discourged rather quickly after my Rainbox Six and Rogue Spear experiences consisted of spawning and getting instantly capped in the head by Marauder over and over. Yeah I was a newbie... so sue me! :) Gamespy has a nice little weapons guide up and ready for a once over.

If Ghost Reacon doesn't manage to pull Marauder away from DAoC than there's only one other thing that possibly could. The new Mech Warrior 4 expansion pack sounds deliciously evil and is sure to warm the heart of any Battletech junkie. How can you not like the title "Dark Knight" (yes, I know that it sounds like a Batman comic). It's good to be bad! As usual you get to blow stuff up real good and unleash the kind of multiplayer mocking previously only reserved for the most 133t action games.

Hah! So know even they admit it! Some poor Mac user couldn't take it anymore and finally admitted that PCs are better than Macs. He better not show his face at another Macworld though as I bet that his brethen would be none too happy to see him right about now.

Windows XP will make your whole life so much better and it's prettier too! Don't believe the hype? Apparently you're not alone... the sales for XP aren't so hot. Hey look it's slower! Yay!

Actually Firing Squad has done up a gaming performance comparison thing between the new XP and previous MS OS's. So far Windows XP seems to be a bit behind Windows 2000 in most games.

Windows XP also seems to be the first stage of the .NET rollout thing as almost every piece of software included with XP seems to be hooked into MSN somehow. Now that Microsoft has settled that annoying anti-competitive lawsuit their free to be yet more anti-competitive!

The case Mod to end all case mods... I'm sure that it'll keep your CPU nice and cool too. Not much room for other components though.

Agh, it's too damned expensive but I must get an xbox. This Wreckless game is the latest cool car melee game and it looks astoundingly good. Picture Grand Theft Auto but with Monster Trucks that can go anywhere (and I mean anywhere like the inside of malls and things!). Much smashing and destruction will ensue and as we all know that is almost always a good thing. It's also known as Double S.T.E.A.L. in Japan but those Japanese people can have weird taste in names. Here see for yourself, watch the videos!

Ever tried Trillian? What's that I hear? You've never heard of Trillian? Well to make a long story short it's a Instant Messenger Client program that can connect simultaneously to the ICQ, AIM, MSN, and Yahoo Instant Messenger networks as well as IRC. As Red leader would say it r0ckz0rs! It has many of the features built into each of the other IM clients too.

Well, it's here. XP has been released upon an unsuspecting world. Will it bring famine, disease and destruction, or has Microsoft finally come up with something that's both fast AND stable, in a Linux sort of way? Hey all, it's almost time for the evil empire of Uncle Bill to release their next plague upon the earth..... But this time it might be a plague for good, rather then the usual garbage MS hoists upon we who have no damned choice but to run their unstable, crappy OS's. I'll reserve judgement untill I've tried the OS for a few months, but so far Dopper and a few others who've been using it for the last few months seem pretty happy with it. It has tons of cool toys, so we'll see. In the meantime, ZD just posted a few of the things that kinda annoy them about the new OS.

Speaking of MS, have you heard about Windows RG? It's the next big thing, I swear it!

Been very busy lately, in my spare time usually watching DVDs (Thanks MrE) and playing Red Faction as well as RPG whoring on Dark Age of Camelot. Should check it out. I'm not at all a big RPG fan, and neither are most of the guys I know who are playing, (Gezer and Dopper "I'm a Quake wh0re" Dopper come to mind) but everyone seems to be enjoying themselves. Will I be playing it in a month or so, when the new Rainbow 6 game, Ghost Recon comes out? Only time will tell. Been watching some of the movies from GR, and damn. Does it ever look sweet.

The demand for info about AMD's new Althon XP CPUs is so intense that it's overwelming their web servers. Fortunately they've set up an alternate mirror over here. Now combine that Althon XP chip with an Nforce motherboard and some good DDR sdram you'll be all set.

Apparently that No 2 pencil on the bridge overclocking trick no longer works with the new Althon but as always someone has already h4x0r3d a way around that and come up with another method that works. Might be a good time to stock up on those Rear Window Defogger Repair Kits (and no I'm not kidding). See the bottom of that page for the goods on this one.

Well, lookie here.... Nullsoft has released a beta version of the all-new, spit-shined Winamp 3 for your downloading pleasure. They've also released skins for it, an SDK, and a Linux Alpha release for those of you so inclined.

Umm... wow! I used to play a little Comanche back-in-the-day (tm) but man has it been a while! However, these new screenies provided by Novalogic of Helecopter Gunships blowing stuff up real good in Comanche 4 has gotten me all excited. I start humming the Airwolf theme just looking at them. Time to break out that joystick and grab myself a copy of this game.

Croteam annouced a little while ago that they were working on a follow-up to Serious Sam titled oddly enough Serious Sam: Second Encounter. Well today XGR slapped up a little interviewing action with Programmer and Game Designer Davor Hunski regarding the sequel to this already classic game. They also managed to milk a few amazing-looking screenshots from an alpha build of this new game.

Really don't feel like talking about news or gaming today. So here's a rant I wrote a while ago......... All of our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the tragegy in the USA. Amazing how far some idiots will go to prove a point. I know the USA are bastards about many things, including their treatement and policies/interferance towards other countries, and I can understand someone trying to blow up the Pentagon (It's a military target after all.) but the sheer cowardice involved in killing thousands of people who have for the most part nothing to do with the US's foreign policies..... It just infuriates and saddens me. Fools, all of them. And shame.

You know. Humans are so very, very pathetic. We are capable of such grand vision, such creative wonderment.....

It's always amazed me, when one looks at works such as the Pyramid, the CN Tower, or the great cathedrals of Europe what we can do when we work together. We can take 100,000 tons of steel and make it float. We can create houses, and indeed entire cities. We can send a man to the moon, and probes to other planets. We can create such works of beauty that they bring tears to the viewers eye and a song to their heart merely through it's existence. We can compose magnificent symphonies that cry out to the skies in their glory. We can have children, and see our future grow and mature before our eyes. We can love.

All of this and more we are capable of doing, and what do we seem to spend so much of our time and energy on? Destruction, war and greed. The gods must weep.

This is something that puzzles me greatly. Why would you want to destroy works of art? Cities? Kill people? I understand that sometimes people don't get along, and this may be naive of me... But so what? Everyone has a different opinion. It's what makes us interesting and unique. If we were all the same the world would be boring as hell. It'd be like being trapped at a young liberal convention.

People imprison, torture and kill other people because of their beliefs... There's a potential war brewing in the middle east right now.... The main difference between the opponents? Their religions translate the bible slightly differently. Are they willing to just sit down and discuss what's going on? Some of them are, others seem to consumed by their hatred and fear they are more willing to fight, kill and die than they are to just talk. It's these people that cause the harm.

I may not agree with what someone says, but I'll fight for their right to be able to say it. So many people seem to be willing to fight to ensure that some people have no rights whatsoever.

I completely fail to understand why you would hate someone because their beliefs are different. (Or for that matter if their skin just happens to be a different colour.) I don't care what other people think.. It's none of my business. I'm certainly not going to try to force my religion or views down someone else's throat. Not to mention, I really doubt that anyone's God would be too happy to have people forced into believing.... Because they obvious won't believe...They're just acting as though they do out of fear. Stupid Crusades.

Personally, I like to hear about other people's religious and personal beliefs... I find it interesting to see what other people believe in. The different religions of the world are fascinating in their different ways of looking at things, their different outlooks. And who am I to say which religion is actually right? I know what I believe it, but I have been wrong before.... Maybe we're all right?

How about racism? How can you hate someone just because their skin happens to be a different color? A guys I know hates all blacks, because at one time he was slashed in a knife fight by a "nigger" as he puts it. Now I'm sorry, but I know some very nice people who just happen to have darker skin than myself. (And, I have to admit... I know alot more white guys who are complete jerks than I know blacks I don't like) I asked this guy if he would hate all "whiteys" if a white guy had been the one he'd been in the fight with. Well... no. So what the hell kind of stupid justification is that for hating an entire race based on one person's actions?

I certainly don't think Hitler was too nice a guy, but I don't hate all Germans because of his actions. You can't hate all Russians because of Stalin. I can't remember who said it, but it was during an awards ceremony of some sort, where a black gentleman was receiving the award. The presenter said "You are a credit to your race.... The human race.." Bravo to him.

I think the main problem may come down to the fact that anything that is different tends to make people nervous. A pack of wolves will ostracize or kill a member who happens to be a different color. A group of school children will torture a kid who is handicapped, or different. Someone with an accent moves into your neighborhood, works hard and starts their own business is somehow an "outsider", and an object of some scorn.

Stenotypes suck, and everyone suffers because of them. I went through years of abuse and terrorizing at school because I was a "Computer Geek." I wasn't any less of a nice person, or less human, but I got bothered constantly. I honestly spent some time thinking about murdering one or two of the guys who seemingly had dedicated their lives to torturing me on an hourly basis. Luckily for them I never let it go that far. As human beings we should certainly be able rise above stupid pettiness, or just be a little more tolerant of others.

We should all just go out and play a few rounds of Paintball or Tribes..... Much better way to solve our problems than tanks and guns. It'd also help if people weren't so damned greedy and self-serving. *cough*politicians*cough* Marauder out.

America is under attack! I've gathered some clips here from various sources and have posted links to various news sites which can give your more updated information about this disaster. My deepest sympathies go out to the victims involved in this horrific tragedy.

First off we have Intel with a suit against VIA, they say that the new chipset is an infringment on intels rights and should be produced, basically intel is saying they would like to continute lagging behind AMD by not using ddr sdram.

Via's two chipsets essentially allow computer makers to put DDR DRAM, a high-speed form of standard computer memory, inside computers with Pentium 4 chips. Currently, only Rambus memory can be used inside Pentium 4 computers, although chipsets that let PC makers use ordinary SDRAM will come out Monday.

"VIA Files Lawsuits Against Intel Corporation in Taiwan & US Courts for Patent Infringement, Anti Competitive Behavior, and Willful Destruction of VIA Property."

Thats what the headlines said a few days after intel announced its suit againts VIA.

"Intel has not obtained a license from VIA for the Pentium 4 microprocessor or the 845 chipset," continued Richard Brown. "The lawsuits will be aimed at stopping the infringement of VIA’s patents by these products," he said.

With the way things are going this should allow AMD to continue on its way quietly while intel is tied up in the courts and give VIA and AMD a chance to further work together on making future chipsets.

I haven installed both on a Windows 98 machine and a Windows XP machine. With a quick test of 3dmark 2k (2k1 being tested later) I gained about 1000 3dmarks, however in XP I dropped around 300 marks a clear issue with the drivers and windows 2000/xp, though I'm sure this will change the next driver release or 'hack'. Go grab em here for win98 and here for win200/xp, and drop a line in our forums on your results and what you think.

The Game of The Year has hit the PS2, HALF LIFE, is being previewed over at GameSpot which should be out in October, looks to be well... the same as the pc version, but now all you console players (ahem get a pc ahem) can play one of the best and still played games from the pc, too bad u can't port over all those lovely mods that have been released.

We've also got some SOF2 lovin just for all you fans, damn this looks sweet, lets just hope it has the same dismembering features as the first.

Just found some screenies of MMOG called EVE: The Second Gensis, basically looks alot like homeworld but kinda kicks its ass with how damn good the graphics look. They are also currently accepting beta testers right now so go on over and get started.

Finally, we have been thinking about setting up a case mods section here at Fragtopia, since it has seemed to be trend for such a long time why not. So if you have a case mod or know anyone who does send them in and we'll get them posted. Just about finished with mine so you will have to wait and see.
