Stupid ASUS. Stupid fucking world. Sold my much vaunted Athlon 650 oc'd to 750 yesterday to Mr. E Mahn and bought a Thunderbird 800 for a little bit more. Naturally the damned ASUS mobo appears to be dead.. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....... Returned the mobo, was assured that another one was on it's way. This afternoon I sit here in my corner, alone, sad and totally motherboardless. Hugging my empty case... A case filled with so much high end gaming gear... And no motherboard to cradle all those parts within it's loving arms and make them do things that makes everyone else jealous. So much power waiting to be unleashed on an unsuspecting world. SO! I am completely without a computer at home. As such I am cranky, irritable, and I can feel my r33t sniping skillz slowly seeping out of my body, much the same way fine, aged wine will seep out of a leaky cask if it's not kept busy and practising capping biatches. Hmmmmm... Perhaps that analogy doesn't work. You know what I mean tho. Damn the computer gods, and damn their evil demonic gaming devices.

Feeling a little sorry for 3Dfx. Always liked to root for the underdog, and now, after so many years of being king of the hill, looks like they're the ones eating dirt these days. I like to see nVidia do well, they've come so far in just 2 years... BUT! I hope we never see an nVidia monopoly either. That's when things start to go stagnant. Maybe S3 will take over as the new 3D accelerator giant! (Oh wait, they'd have to start making REALY video cards then, wouldn't they??) Hah!

Walking past the local Radio Shed the other day. Passed a guy holding an emachine. Big sticker on the side of it. "World's fastest gaming machine." I almost died with laughter. They hung people at Neuremberg for smaller lies than contained on that one small sticker.

Only one word for that guy. Sucker. Maybe fucking idiot as well.

Well, after a long very tiring weekend of paintball, I'm back. Got rained on, got shot lots in the last game when I lead three glorious charges into enemy fire, screaming at the top of my lungs (Luckily in paintball, unlike real life, one does respawn.) Other than the paintball, the weekend was uneventful, but it was nice to have a little time off. (Thanks Rune!)

I've finally got Windows ME installed on my work machine, and honestly.... Ehhhh... It's Windows 98 TE (Third edition) It does seem to use more resources and run slower once I get everything loaded down than 98 SE. To be fair, it's only a final release candidate, so Microsoft may have made a few changes to it... but not too many I'm thinking. Before it gets all loaded down it does boot like a bat out of hell. I'm at my desktop in about 30 seconds flat or less. Pretty speedy little devil.

The coolest part of Windows ME in my opinion is the Registry backup & restore utility. Personally I think having a Registry is a retarded idea in the first place, as it causes untold problems that require one to restore one OS on a disturbingly regular basis. (Fucking MS anyhows. Morons.) But since we're stuck with it, it's really handy to be able to make a snapshot of the OS at any time, and restore it at will. It works too, I was busy deleting my Outlook Express folder just to see, after making a Registry backup of course. (Naturally, if anyone asked what I had done, my answer was "NOTHING! I DIDN'T TOUCH ANYTHING!" Heh heh.) Then BLAMO!. No more OE. Restored the registry, and there it was again! This is going to be great for cutting down on service calls and OS restores I think. And unlike the 98 SE version, this one actually seems to work right. It also dates all the Reg backups, which is just great for keeping track of how far back you are going. I don't know how happy the guys who make "Go Back" are going to be with this OS. As near as I can tell, that's exactly what their utility does. Du'oh! One more lawsuit to keep the MS lawyer team on their feet. :)

ME will also not allow you to delete vital .VXD files! Thank God! I don't know how many times I've had a customer in who had deleted something that "Didn't look like they needed it!" from their windows/system folder. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.... Now the file just won't delete. :)

Now the bad stuff: I couldn't get ME to work with my GeFORCE2 at home. This is likely just a driver issue, according to Creative Labs and nVidia. Have to wait until the OS is actually released for proper driver support.

The OS seems to lock up frequently loading SB Live! drivers, again, have to see if the official ME drivers work any better.

ME also seems to have issues (May just be something funny about this system) playing videos. Video clips run very, very jumpy and will occasionally crash the system. Again, may be driver, or Windows Media player related.

One thing I did fear greatly, and it seems to have come to pass is lack of real DOS support. The command folder is still there, but you are unable to boot to a command prompt on power up, and can't reboot in MS-DOS mode. You can run what looks alot like the NT command simulator thingy. Now 99% of the time, I couldn't give a damn about actual DOS support... BUT! When something blows up in Windows, much of the time you have to boot into DOS to fix the damned thing. We'll see how things unfold. I'll let you all know when I get a final copy of ME installed on this machine, if it runs any differently.

Got my ass signed up for the Tribes 2 beta. I hope the rest of you did as well. If I get approved, we're going to have to slightly upgrade the FRAGtopia Just 4 Fun server, as it is a touch under the specs for the Beta servers. (600mhz, 256 meg RAM! Ouchies!) Not a problem tho, it'll be worth it. :)

I'm still working on that review for FAKK2. Go check out my screenshots, then go buy the game. It's pretty damned good and kept me occupied long enough to beat it, which is something that very few games can do.

Lots of Tribes 2 happenings lately! If you haven't yet signed up for the beta go here to do so! Also they're slapped up a bunch of fullscreen, higher quality screenshots that look simply amazing. Check 'em out! I'll bet ya that sniper pic will probably end up being Marauder's new Desktop background after he finally sees it.

For some real John Woo Action check out the new Counter Strike Beta 7! They've added dual Berettas, new maps and animations and test vehicles that you can actually drive around in. I just tried this and it's great! The jeeps aren't very realistic yet but they're a ton of fun.

First off, here's a little tidbit from Game Centre that gives a few details on the upcoming Pentium IV. Looks pretty sweet. I dunno about this Internet BS. (The Pentium III was somehow supposed to make the Internet faster as well!?) But the rest of it looks pretty sweet. READ it! Thanks Hormone!!!

This means she'll be the big cheese over all the "action" themed Planet sites and will do most of the writing at 3D ActionPlanet and GameSpy.com. We'd like to congratulate her on her accomplishments and her recent promotion.

Now this leaves some duties open around PlanetQuake and those have been filled in a way we think you should all feel comfy with. Spyke has been promoted to PQ Content Manager, which means he's responsible for making sure our regular features and added juice get posted for you all to enjoy. There will be alot more on that soon, so watch close.

I've been given the job of PQ Site Director and that basically means I'm responsible for the direction PQ takes, and if you don't have a good time on your visit, it's my fault. I'd like you all to know that I plan on keeping PQ right at the top of your lists for Quake news, features and community focused action. Feel free to bring ideas and concerns right to me. I'll still be hanging around the news and handling the PQ hosted sites, so those that have issues there can still go to the same place. "

You'll still see me playing on the servers around the 'net, so I'll cyah all on the battlefield. (Most likely thru my sniper scope, being the campy little bitch that I am. :)

Party went well yesterday, we had 10 guys there. Played some Tribes, Counterstrike, Q3A (Stuck it down Skeez! :) and some UT. Lots of fun had by all, much fragging went down. Regretably, I was lagging out too badly because of the RuneCAM (tm) and so had to shut it down to play games.. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr........................

As an interesting side note, no news from Rune for a few days... He left his keyboard in my car when I took him home.. And since he lives around 50km away from me......... Sucker. :) So bascially I can make fun of him, and he can't do anything other that futilly click around. :))) heh.

Hmmmm. LAN Party. :) FRAGtopia lite is on. Duoh. Same weekend as the AK LAN, so a wack of our regulars are down in Niagra Falls. :) Ahhhh well. We're going to hang out here for the day and play some games, have some fun. Eat pizza, drool on our keyboards. You know, all those good things you do at LAN Parties. Web cam will be up if you wanna see whats up here on the west side with the g's.

I've been checking out the demoscene lately and man has it been busy! WTF is the demoscene you ask? Well it's a community that makes and displays computer imagery usually in the form of real-time rendered 3D and 2D artistic demos. Many individuals and/or groups compete against each other at demo parties where they show off their latest and greatest creations. Some of the best sites for the demoscene include demonews.com, scene.org, and demoscene.org. Check out a couple of these 3D accelerated examples: (warning: some of these require a pretty hefty videocard in order to work properly), Fate by 7 Gods, Art by Haujobb, Lapsus by Maturefurk, and Stuff I whacked together when I was bored by Sol/Trauma. In Tribes 2 news, Gamespy has landed a video interview with Dave Georgeson, Producer of the game. They go into detail about gameplay, graphics, new teamplay features as well as new tech like integrated web pages, voice chat, and instant messaging in Tribes 2. Just got my copy of FAKK2. Looking pretty damned sweet so far. Graphics are just stupid sweet. You can also do some really cool sword moves. And of course, the protagonist has a nice ass to look at, just as a bonus point for the whole game. :)) As one odd note, it's the first game I've seen with a pregnant woman in it. You just know something horrible is going to happen to her. :) I'll get back to you all in a day or so with my verdict on it.

AMD is good. Intel is often mental retarded (*cough*rambus*cough*bribe*cough*) in their mad scramble to discredit AMD and make themselves again look like the only alternative. And since yon MC Hamster seems to be doing mall openings these days, it'd be pretty cheap to get the video and rights I imagine.

Tom's Hardware has as little write up on the AMD Vs. Intel in the 64 bit CPU war HERE. Very good read, and tells you a little about the Sledgehammer proccessor.. Hmmm. Dual core. Will run 32 bit as well as 64 bit programs quickly, unlike the Intel. Duoh. I'm starting to kinda feel sorry for Intel. Kinda. You know how you kinda feel sorry for the school yard bully when all the other kids learn Kung-Fu and Smith & Wesson? That kinda sorry.

I don't know if I posted much about this before, but a few new things.

A) We now have a T1 server running Tribes, base mod. It's Teamplay and OGL legal and guys from Canada ping sweet to it. (If you are in the Toronto->Barrie corridor you should ping around 40-80 max. Give it a try. Server name is "|WC|/FRAGtopia Just 4 Fun" IP is 209.135.104.57. We are also loaning the server out to Tribes for matches and pracs. Just ICQ me if you would like to borrow it and I'll set you up.

Been playing quite a bit of that Screaming Fist TC for Tribes. It's pretty damned cool. Check out the site HERE. Download it and try it out. It's especially sweet to be traveling across the map on a transport plane, playing door gunner. :) Wow.

Starting to play with some TCs (Total Conversions) for Tribes. Some of these guys actually do some amazing work. Hosed from the Screaming Fist TC was nice enough to send me over an early copy for me to take a look at it. (It'll be going public today) Not too bad atall. Still a few bugs to work out, but that's why it's still a Beta. :) I'll post the link as soon as it goes public so y'all can try it out if so inclined. I'll likely be adding it to the |WC|/FRAGtopia server later today to mess around with for a bit, see how it is for teamplay. (Heh. Guided missiles gooooooood.)

Another TC that's looking pretty damned sweet is the Star Wars TC. They've got some amazing looking screenshots posted, and assuming that George Lucas doesn't land an AT-AT full of lawyers on their asses, they may actually have something really cool shortly. We'll have to wait and see.

In other news, I went with Mrs. Marauder and Rune last night to see Space Cowboys. Damn. That's one fine movie with a great plot, and some truly amazing cinematics. Well worth the $11 to go see it. :)

Huh. News from FGN Online. They're reporting rumors that we may see Half Life as a movie. Here's the exact quote:

For the first time in many, many years... A movie that's actually scarier than some of the things I've found under the seats in my car! *shiver*

Speaking of FGN, I can't believe THIS. Capcom is planning on releasing the classic us old guys all remember so well.. Dragon's Lair... ON A FREAKIN' GAMEBOY COLOUR?!?!?!?!?! Just got back from a Microsoft Windows ME bullshit session. Was an allright way to spend an evening, moderately amusing. And of course.... Would be it be a Microsoft meeting without our old friend, the blue screen of death?? That's right..... JUST as the MS guys queues up a movie and utters the fateful words "And the best thing about dealing with Microsoft is......" >ZOT< the computer gods struck him down by BSOD (Blue Screen Of Deathing) his ME demo box. The crowd just went completely wild. Funny as hell, and made my night. Dopper, Kingpin, Gezer and myself are hooting and hollering. :) Heh. The entire night was worth it just for that.

Isn't that just the damndest thing? The main sacrifice site has undergone a renovation as well. Pretty darned buff I'm thinking.

Gamespy has posted an interview with Dave Georgeson, Producer of Tribes 2 that answers quite a few of the questions I've been having. Sounds like they're going to be adding quite a bit of stuff that makes me giggle like a little schoolgirl on Iceman's crack, and greatly appeals to my sneaky, campy, snipey nature. Cloaking pack good. Shock lance good. Underwater battles good. Tribes 2 very good. Interview good.

Gotta tell you guys. I've been playing Tribes avidly since 2 days after it was released. It's still a damned good game now, and I'm so pumped over Tribes 2 I can hardly believe it. I can't think of any other game I've been so interested in. :) My list right now runs this way: Tribes 2 (Way out in front), Team Fortress 2. Sacrifice & Halo are tied for third. Mainly I'm looking forward to getting my hot little hands on that sniper rifle in Halo and making sweet, sweet love to it on a hill top somewhere. :))

And remember kids, despite our constant references to crack.. Winners don't do drugs! (Well, unless you're a proffessional athlete..... Or maybe a top executive.... or....... Uhhhhhhhh... Never mind.)

Penny-Arcade has poked fun at The Registrars, who after their wonderful "database" error took our website down for a few days may just be my fav biatches for a while.

Was posting a letter to Tycho over at PA about it (Hey, I'll rant to anyone who's Outlook doesn't yet automatically delete my incomings!) I was amused by my ranting so here it is: (Read it, and know that YES! Customer service is indeed alive, well, and living in the Registrars' pants.)

"Speaking of the Registrars, those idiots had a database errors a week ago that took my ranting, ravings, and incoherent mumblings offline for 3-4 days.

Now, while many of the people out there (Mostly the Mac guys, and prehaps John Romero) would view this as mearly the work of God and "the right thing to have happened" I was somewhat pissed off. SO! I wrote away.

Here's the letter.

Part 1:

We aplogize for the sudden change, our database malfunctioned and updated a lot of domain names to our dns servers. Please email us the dns servers and IPs, so that we can make the proper update.

(Bitches. Free advert for them, courtesy of everyone who went to my sites. Grrrrrrrrrr) I figured maybe they'd do something nice for me, you know for messing us up for a few days... Did they? Oh yes! They certainly offered to move the earth and moon to make sure I was happy with thier services!

Part 2:

Dear Sir, We would be happy to send you a Registrars.com T-shirt for your enjoyment! Please email us with your mailing address and specify the size(XL or Large).

Yes! That's right! A fucking Tshirt! Oh my god! Their database "malfunctions" (No backups?!?) and takes my web site down for days and I get offered a TSHIRT!?!?!?!?!?!?! If this was a site I relied on to life I'd offer them a damned lawsuite to go with that Tshirt.

I've somehow got a bad taste in my mouth. This would be comparable to Nike making a pair of shoes that explode and put you out of work for a few days offering you a god damned Nike Tshirt (Ex. Advert) by way of compensation. Not happy with these guys at all.
