A few pieces of Rune news today. First off, his good friends
in Iran are playing with nukes. Woohoo Nuclear
Weapons! :) Secondly, there's apparently
a more powerfull explosive force in the universe than Pappy
on beer and pickled egg night. (I know,
it's hard to imagine.) Apparently I should start breaking
into more parked cars in Toronto. Some
cops got themselves some sweet gear for their private collections.
:)
I've had a few people sending in photos of their new Thermal
Take fanless power supplies. I was considering getting one..
But they're
hideous beyond all belief. I'm liking the
look of the Antec
unit, I don't like the huge fins and crap
that stick out of the Thermal Take.
I got me a sweet new Saitek
keyboard.. and.. wow. Other than looking
awesome, it's also the more comfortable keyboard I've ever
used before. I'm very very impressed with it. Review coming
soon. :)

21.2005 - Wow time flies.

As I've noted on some of the other sites I work on.... Time
truly does fly. I've been so swamped by work I've not really
had time to update the site. I really have to get working
on art and writing, as I do really enjoy doing it, but never
seem to have enough time. I have a bunch of ICQ madness stuff
to get up, as well as working on the review of the Logitech
MX 1000 mouse, which has been gracing my desk with it's presence
for the last few months and is.... Well, it's taken over from
the MX700 as the new Ubermouse, hands down. If you've been
reading this site for a while, you'll recall that the search
for the True Ubermouse was first begun by the SS during World
War II, on the orders of Hitler himself. (Operation Ubermousen)
Luckily
they failed, and so were defeated by the allies and the world
was saved from the horrors of tight leather pants and goofy
looking feathered hats. I took up the search in way back in
the late 1990s, and it continues to this day. Will the MX1000
continue to hold the crown and allow me to defeat the French?
Well, we'll see what Logitech and Microsoft (and Karna?) bring
out next, cause you know I'll be trying them. As for the French...
Well.. I don't really need a mouse to beat them, but hey,
whatever works.
Rune sent me a rather amusing read about the brand
new AMD 666 CPUs. All of my Intel worshiping
friends were right it seems. AMD is indeed the devil. And
where the heck WILL I find goat blood to cool it? :( Also
from Rune, and the guys from Slashdot, if
you're a Starwars fan scroll down and read
all the comments from the trolls. Some of them are pretty
damned funny. And... what Rune aspires to do in his spare
time. Quite
possibly the funniest webcam video evar.
Are you an engineer? Sick of waffles and icecream? Help
is here! Thanks Barzoule :) Also, for nerds
and engineers: How
to fold a shirt. In Japan at least. Me I
just wad them up and throw them into a corner untill I need
them. Thanks Chisel. :)
Microsoft has done something seemingly right! Microsoft
Antispyware Beta. Seems to be actually quite
decent from our recent testing on some really, really vile
computers. I was a little leary of it, but it seems that it's
actually a product from a company they've gone and purchased.
Thus far I'm quite impressed. Go MS!
I can't remember if I posted
Rockfish, I know I sent it out to quite
a few people. Check it out, one hell of a cool rendered movie.
HEY! The
Screenshots finally got updated. Pic of
the day? More like decade sometimes it seems.

WOW
is good. Very good actually. It's not as
pretty as EverQuest 2... Heck, not even close. But it's a
great deal of fun, the races are cool and the missions kick
ass. I normally don't like MMPRGs, as I find they get boring
very quickly and I simply don't have the time to play them.
We'll see how long this one lasts before I wander off into
the sunset and play something else. For the moment however
I'm quite entertained. A little rough on the launch, with
lag and servers going up and down, but certainly no worse
than any other MMPORG, and quite a bit better than many of
them. It will be interesting to see what Blizzard does with
WOW in the future, have to keep an eye on them. Hopefully
they can resolve the lag and waiting
times soon.
Intel's been fancy dancing around the 64 bit issue for a while
now, and rumors have been floating around that they've scrapped
their Itanium and reverse engineered the AMD solution for
32/64 bit processors. Rune's sent in a few
articles that made
me giggle. Suck it down Intel. :)
My good friend Magic has
way too much time on his hands.

"Please wear a poppy," the lady said
And held one forth, but I shook my head.
Then I stopped and watched as she offered them there,
And her face was old and lined with care;
But beneath the scars the years had made
There remained a smile that refused to fade.
A
boy came whistling down the street,
Bouncing along on care-free feet.
His smile was full of joy and fun,
"Lady," said he, "may I have one?"
When she's pinned in on he turned to say,
"Why do we wear a poppy today?"
The
lady smiled in her wistful way
And answered, "This is Remembrance Day,
And the poppy there is the symbol for
The gallant men who died in war.
And because they did, you and I are free -
That's why we wear a poppy, you see.
"I
had a boy about your size,
With golden hair and big blue eyes.
He loved to play and jump and shout,
Free as a bird he would race about.
As the years went by he learned and grew
and became a man - as you will, too.
"He
was fine and strong, with a boyish smile,
But he'd seemed with us such a little while
When war broke out and he went away.
I still remember his face that day
When he smiled at me and said, Goodbye,
I'll be back soon, Mom, so please don't cry.
"But
the war went on and he had to stay,
And all I could do was wait and pray.
His letters told of the awful fight,
(I can see it still in my dreams at night),
With the tanks and guns and cruel barbed wire,
And the mines and bullets, the bombs and fire.
"Till
at last, at last, the war was won -
And that's why we wear a poppy son."
The small boy turned as if to go,
Then said, "Thanks, lady, I'm glad to know.
That sure did sound like an awful fight,
But your son - did he come back all right?"
A
tear rolled down each faded check;
She shook her head, but didn't speak.
I slunk away in a sort of shame,
And if you were me you'd have done the same;
For our thanks, in giving, if oft delayed,
Thought our freedom was bought - and thousands paid!
And
so when we see a poppy worn,
Let us reflect on the burden borne,
By those who gave their very all
When asked to answer their country's call
That we at home in peace might live.
Then wear a poppy! Remember - and give!

to fight, I just want to run around and check out the landscapes.
:D Heck, I don't even really have time to play it but I'm
going to do my best. I've loved Warcraft, ever since I picked
up the first one at Compusmart here in town many many years
ago on a whim 'cause it looked different. Wow. It's hard to
believe it's been 10 years.
I've been checking out a few Indie games lately... and...
Wow. There's some really, really good games out there from
small publishers. An excellent example of this is Flatspace,
a very open eneded space trading/combat game that's sort of
like Wing Commander: Privateer meets Starscape meets Star
Command 2. The developer (Mark Sheeky) sent me a copy for
review, so we're checking it out right now and man it's adictive!
Download the demo and try for yourself. He also runs a little
review site call Bytten that reviews independent games. Check

Proving
Grounds is gone. One of my favorite ladders
of all time is toast, as of yesterday. Damned shame really,
they ran out of money and that was that. It's always sad to
see something like that happen to such a great community.
In Rune news, looks like Intel has finally clued in that....
Gigahertz
really doesn't matter all that much, there's
many other ways to speed computers up. *sigh* Finally. Ironic
that they're now saying "Those are the sort of things
where you get more capability out of a processor by designing
specific silicon solutions as opposed to just keep turning
the clock faster," when they've spent so many years hammering
into people's heads that it's just clock speed that makes
a computer fast.
Google now has a search engine for your computer. Check
it out, very cool. Thanks Dman!
New games
for review (when I get around to it) Tribes: Vengance, Battlefront,
and Full Spectrum Warrior. Need more time.....
I like the looks of Destroy

Hey! Rune's sent
in a picture of the new $20 canadian bill.
On the front you can see the Queen of England, and on the
back you can see the French running away.
I've always wondered what evil would look like if you disassembled
it down to it's component parts. Chisel has provided us with
the answer, and
it is grape. Evil. Evil I tell you. Naked
evil.
Some people have way, way too much time on their hands, and
Goshwin once again provides us with proof of this fact...
Behold.... My
Little Pony of Borg! I think Gosh is just
jealous and I shudder to think of the experiments he's conducting
in that basement lab of his if he finds that so fascinating.
I was cruising around the big ol' interweb the other day looking
for movies, and I found the site for "Exorcist:
The begining" which is actually very
cool. No idea how the movie is, but I like the site. :)
In other Rune related news, he can't seem to get a date. I
think he's just using the wrong pickup lines, and frankly
he needs to take a page from my buddy Killer's book and learn
some sweet
new moves to get the hotties.
I don't think I mentioned this before, my Battlefield team
got honored on the Proving Grounds ladder site with their
Spotlight On Award!
I like quiet PCs. I used to have machines that sounded like
DC10s leaving the runway, many years ago. And it was cool.
But over time I've figured out that loud sucks. Really sucks.
Quiet is truly golden, as grandma used to say around the kitchen
table. I'd
love to get a little mini pc like this I think...
But I need speed too. Gah. I wish I didn't game......Thanks
for the linkage Dman.

Wow. I just realised how long it's been since I posted anything.
My appologies to everyone, I've been uber busy at work, building
my business and doing renovations, working on websites, fixing
people's computers etc. I've been doing a little thinking
on the FRAGtopia site, and I've been debating just calling
it quits. In the past I had a few people to help me out, but
in the last year or so, no one. I've had lots of people say
they can give me a hand with the site, write a review now
and again, or even just post some news, but nothing ever comes
of it. Sooooooooo......... I don't know. As mentioned I've
been really busy the last little while, and I might have a
new project coming up that's going to take up the spare time
I try to devote to the FRAGtopia site. I'd like to keep working
on it, and maybe get more posts done.. After all, we get somewhere
in the area of 15 -> 20,000 hits a month, even when I'm
not doing that much work on updating the site..... To me,
for something that just gets done in spare time, that's quite
a few hits. We'll have to see what happens this winter I guess,
when there's nothing else to do outside. I really do love
this little site, and there's been so, so much work put into
it since I put the first news post up November 26th of 1999.

but thus far... No CPU has arrived into my hot little hands....
But the problem is.. No 64 bit OS that works thus far, (Well,
'cept for Linux, and in my opinion there's just no point running
that for the moment, except for servers.) no 64 bit apps and
games, and of course, no PCI express motherboard for it yet.
*sigh* I just hope when Windows 64 comes out, it's not insanely
expensive because it's a "professional" operating
system. Nice to see that AMD has finally standardized
on one socket though, that should make life
a little easier in the very near future.

It sucks. It's pretty and there's some interesting stuff in
there, but it's not worth buying. I got killed in a cutscene
for petesakes... That's NEVER EVER happened before. The game
kept going, the enemies advancing, and when the cutscene was
over, my carefully horded health was at one pixel, and a bullet
was in the air and headed for me. That's just such bad scripting
on the part of the dev team. I think I got ahead of where

a few days ago and now the stupid song is stuck in my head...
that and a bunch of squirells in a pink cadilac. It's so bad
it just rattles around in your brain like an acorn in a pumpkin.
Dman sent me a fun link. I wondered when the army or navy
was finally going to get some railgun technology underway.
Looks
like they're working on it. Should be interesting
to have a gun with 250 miles range, able to punch a hole 10'
wide and deep, and penetrate 40' into solid ground. Gotta
get me some of that action, baby!
In another Dman submitted link: I've been looking forward
to Windows XP SP2.... Buuuut.... I'm sorta worried what it's
going to break, and so
are other people apparently. I guess it's
better in the long run though, if it prevents these very nasty
massive virus infections we've seen in the last little while.
(Ex. Blaster and Netsky.)
Just heard from my computer supplier that MSI PCI
Express motherboards will be avaliable next
week. I'm quite excited about PCI Express, as I've been complaining
for years that the industry needs to get off their duffs and
do something with the bus speeds rather than concentrating
on things that quite frankly really don't matter, and are
getting to the point of diminishing returns, such as CPU ghz.
It's about time! Regretably, they'll only be avaliable for
Intel chips for a bit apparently, and since there aren't any
video cards right now, with onboard video only. Hopefully
those two things change within the next little while and we'll
be able to see just how fast this new bus is.

Since I last posted anything here. How time flies. Sorry for
the lack of posts guys, I've been very busy, getting seperated,
moving etc. I'll do my bestest to try and get more postings
done soon. Thanks to all my friends and family for their support
and help and understanding. :)
Hitman is all about A
Tale in The Desert lately. I've downloaded
it but really haven't had a chance to check it out yet. Looks
very pretty though.
Huh. I've been hearing a few people talking about the new
VIA powered PC based game handheld. Interesting. Checked
it out, looks pretty spiffy. I'd actually
like to get my hands on one and take it for a test drive.
I wonder though which of my games will run well on it. I really
can't see it running Battlefield: Vietnam or UT2004 very well,
especially considering it's rather low CPU speed. I'd also
like to know what the price is on it. It will be very interesting
to see how it works out. Somehow I get the feeling that we
won't be hearing much from them shortly, but then again I
said the same thing about the french and bellbottom jeans.
My
friend Dustbunny is in Florida on vacation, and apparently
got chased around by a frog according to Skeezix. I hope it
wasn't one
of these guys!
More
soon, I hope! |

Ever wonder who invented the oh-so-famous 3 Finger Salute?
(and no, we're not talking about the online comic strip.)
Thanks to Dman, we
now know!
Saw that Gamespy had an interview and a release
announcement for Battlefield 2.... Interestingly
enough I read
this one a while ago and I wonder if they're
related?
It's nice to know the english are goofy. But they're forward
looking goofy people. They're trendy before
the word was ever invented. I love people who give their kids
stupid names. I hope they enjoy the retirment home their bitter
and resentfull children pick for them. (Thanks Rune.)
Has anyone had
a chance to check out Soldner? I downloaded
it, and played it for approximately 30 seconds. I'd like to
here opinions on it. It was pretty, but I didn't have a chance
to even figure out the keys, as of yet.

Generator 256 sends in... The
Half Life 2 case mod! Uh. Wow. Scroll to
the bottom of the thread for the pics.
Heard about this one on the radio the other day. Then Rune
sent it to me. There's nothing like giving
orders to a chicken. Go ahead, give it a
try.

Just a few little pieces of news in from Rune today. First
off, PS/2s suck. Where the hell is my persisitant
online sort of universe thing for my Battlefield? I've given
DICE a few hundred dollars over the last year and a bit....
Where's my stuff? Stupid PS/2.
Rune also sent over a link to a video camera'd Unreal
3.0 engine demo. Uh wow. Now THAT'S architecture!
Looking for a new video card? Got
a stupid amount of money to spend? I feel
sorry for everyone who just picked up a Radeon 9800XT, they're
going to be pissed.
Heading
to Pappy's tomorrow for LAN. Talk to y'all soon. Who knows,
I might get that darned review for Vietnam up soon.

Uh wow. The guys at Theprodukkt
(Fabarausch) again blow my mind. A complete shooter beta in
96k. (Yes, 96 KILOBYTES). The AI is Doom1, but the graphics
and music are actually pretty darned good. These guys just
totally amaze me with the stuff they can do.
In Rune related news, the DAOC nerds will soon be emerging
from the darkness of their safe basements, nosing around computer
shops like rats going through the trash behind a restaurant....
Looking for the new
expansion pack before scurrying back to
their lairs with said prize in their grubby, cheetos stained
paws.
Skeezix sends a rather
entertaining flash animation. Just move
your mouse over his face and watch the show. :) He also sent
in something that's both extremely interesting a disturbing.
A
ride though Chernobyl. Very interesting
photos and commentary. Really hits you when they make the
comment that people can move back into the area in 200-300
years. Wow.
Remember
the Sea Monkeys from your old superman comics?
Well, yah can now get your very own Sea Monkey Boxer clothing.
Yes. Yes you can. (Goshwin
is wearing a pair of Sea Monkey boxers and watching Star Trek
reruns in his basement right now.)

An excellent day of paintball up at Wasga Beach yesterday.
532 people attended the season opener, and it was a gorgeous
day for paintball. Welll.. Not that I've ever actually seen
a BAD day for paintball, but it was unusually nice. Quite
a number of our local gamers showed up including Cable, Rune,
Zombie, Kingpin, Hessian and his buddy John, Dragon and Brendon
or Brendan or whatever it is. :) Thanks for all the fun guys.
Ever re-do your Windows and suddenly it won't allow you to
access some of your previous files? Try
this (XP Users) and see if it works out
for you. Ran into it on a customer's computer last week, and
it seemed to solve the problem.
Praetorian sent me a most interesting link. A
DVD full of demo scene stuff! Niiiice :)

3.2004 - Paintbaaaaaaalllllll!! |

Got up this morning, stepped out the front door and took a
deep breath. It's spring ya'all! AND IT'S PAINTBALL SEASON!!!!!
Well. It will be in a few days anyhows. Myself and a pile
of my fellow nerds will be hitting Wasga
Beach Paintball Adventures on saturday April
the 10th for their season opener. It's .6c paint and cheap
rentals, no charge to play for gun owners. There's usually
a couple of hundred guys and gals up there, and it's going
to be a hell of a good day. I've already got the car full,
but if you're going to make it up there, drop
me a line and let me know.
Heard
back from my buddy Zombie on Universal Combat:
Hi dave, Mike MacPherson here. FYI: i found the full version
of universal combat in a bargain bin for 12 bucks. The full
game is actually visually more appealing but still looks like
everquest done as a shooter, the ground combat just sucks.
it is fun however to fly down and bomb the crap out of people
when they are fighting on the ground or just plain do a little
orbital bombardment. If you'd like to borrow the full version
it does actually run provided you have a vertex shader. :)
Regards
I might borrow it. I'm still not sure if it's even worth an
install on my hard drive.... But I'll think about it for a
while.
Interesting little read about helmet
laws in Tennessee and other places. I've
had this discussion with Skeezix a few times, and I dunno.
Personally if I was riding I'd keep my helmet on, I'd regard
it sort of like playing paintball without proper eye protection,
or riding in a car without a seatbelt.
My favorite current demo group, Farbrausch has some very very
cool new demos out that need a good downloading and watching.
Especially
the Breakpoint 04 demo, it's got some wicked
footage of the party with the same name. Thanks to Dman for
the heads up. Always something new from those crazy euro bastards.
Invader Tim sends in a very,
VERY cool little case mod. There's nothing
like a Jelly Bean car!
I can't
remember if I mentioned this or not, so I will now. There's
an Internet Cafe/LAN place in my home town of Orangeville,
Ontario now! (woot!) Internet Zone Cafe opened up just a few
days ago in the little Mac's Milk stripmall at First st and
Fifth Ave. Drop by and check it out, nice place, phat pipe.
