Yrunsob swears up and down that he owns my ass at Tribes 2.... At last, the myth and the lies (OH THE LIES!) will be revealed to the public's discerning eyes...... Here is the proof. Know the truth my brothers and sisters.

Marauder (ICQ #: 12419781)

Allrighty. Dman is now on my list of favorite people. The Lasiest Men On Mars hated Diakatana just as much as I did.... So they did a '70's porn remix of the sidekicks. :) Go here and right to the bottom to download it. Wahahah.

Now that's quality family humor.

Marauder (ICQ #: 12419781)

OK, OK I'm a liar... So much for the daily news updats.. One day they will begin again, I swear.....

More later.

Marauder (ICQ #: 12419781)

In other news I hate my buddy Mike. Why? He told me about Jumpgate, a massively multiplayer game that's kinda like Privateer meets everquest. It looks soooo good. So I applied for the beta.

I got on the beta. I am now downloading the game. It's 85 megs. The best I can get off their FRICKIN' FTP SERVER IS A MISERABLE .5k/SECOND! THAT'S RIGHT! IT'S A 50 _HOUR_ DOWNLOAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAAARRRGGGHHH!!! That's a ridiculous download speed for a guy on cable. Actually it's only a small amount over what a person on a 300 baud modem would get. YAH!

I'll let you know how it is.

Marauder (ICQ #: 12419781)

Oh shoot. I forgot to post this, a Quake player's daily prayer. I picked it offa some guy's .sig (Thanks, whoever you were!)

Lord, give us this day our daily frag
Forgive us for putting the rail
As we forgive those who camped against us
Lead us not into lava, But deliver us from bluescreens
For yours is the level, the ammo, the powerups
Forever and ever Or until the timelimit is hit
Wereupon I hope I have the highest score.
Amen.

Well, this is just one of those "You know you're a complete geek when" moments that come along from time to time in my life. It's an absolutely gorgeous day outside... I opened the blind, noted how nice it was..... Then quickly closed the blind before the natural light could sully my normally slightly dark and gloomy computer room and glare from my monitor, therefore reducing my ability to waste time doing absolutely nothing of real value. The only concession I am making to a day of such complete niceness is to leave the window open and let some air in the apartment. :) So I'm sitting here working on the page, interviews, reviews etc.. and listening to dance music MP3's REALLY loud. u96 to be specific. Damn dey fine!

Planning is going well for the FRAGtopia 2(001) big LAN party. People are signing up, prizes are coming in. It's going to be one hell of a party! Come and join us.

Good news everyone! Apparently I've been promoted to executive pimp of 3 Finger Salute, our local funny pages. :) I really like these guys and their cartoon, which is why: a) they have hosting here, and b) I push their cartoon whenever I can. If you haven't visted their site go take a look. They're funny as hell. The reason for my promotion is that I was out pimping their site when Prae was on his Black and White spree, and... weeeeelll... I kinda got them 4,000 hits in one day. (That's high for them. :) Heh. WHO'S YOUR DADDY PRAE!! Just glad to help out. Hopefully they get some regular readers outta that. I honestly think they're comic is one of the most entertaining out there today.

Anyhows! I've gotcher news right here.

First off I have vowed to resume daily updates even if it cuts into my hard won gaming time..... We don't make any money or anything on this site, but I just like writing. So there you go, now you all know how much I love you.

Second off, I've got some new work completed at last.

Serious Sam review is up and posted. I spent ALL last friday playing it. From start to finish I sat at my machine for 7 hours total. Not too many games I'll sit still that long for, but it was just so good. Mind you, that's about it.... No real replay value. Read my attitude here.

PVK mod interview is at long last posted. You may recall I've mentioned Pirates, Vikings and Knights a few times before..... It's an... Lets just say interesting mod for half life. Take a look at the interview, and go visit their page. Nice work by the dev team, and it's certainly one unique game.

I don't know if I mentioned this before, but Striptease (While we're kinda on the topic of comics) just about kills me. Check 'em out, prepare to laugh.

Thanks to Symplicite I now know why so many computer geeks wear glasses. I knew there was a scientific explanation somewhere.

Pengiun-Boy just send this over to me.... Ummmmmmm.... I think there's a problem of some sort there bud....Might wanna get that looked at.

The Penguin-Meister also linked me up with Skinshack. These guys have a completely wicked flash intro, and a good selection of weapon and player skins for CS. Check 'em out.

iLL-Techneeqs is, indeed one bad ass UT mofo. His partner didn't show up for a 2 on 2 match. Here's the results. Ouch. That's gotta be embarassing.

Remember how your mom always told you to never pick up hitchhikers? Gamespy reveals just a few of the bad things that can happen when you don't listen to your mom. Thanks Goshwin.

Anyhows, enough for today. More tomorrow. I swear.

Well, we had an excellent staffers meeting on Thursday night. Got quite a bit of stuff sorted out, including the cash prizes for the tournaments. Check the FRAGtopia 2(001) site for all the details.

Found a nifty little search engine for the site as well. You'll note the "search fragtopia" button in the main index box to our left <===. Just click on it and search the site for whatever your little heart desires. Enjoy!

My old buddy Bayonet Kagato sends over this highly amusing little letter from an American to the Chinese. :) Wwahaha. :) Thanks Bay.

Speaking of our much hated southern friends, check out this little map someone sent me. :) It's funny, 'cause it's true!

Been playing Black and White a little.... Not a bad game.. But I do tend to have the same problem as this guy. Stupid tiger won't kill ANYONE. ARGH! Not after I beat the hell out of his for daring to eat my worshipers.... Now he's just a big friendly wimp.. Grrrrrrrrrr..... Thanks for the linkage, Boo.

If you're old like me, perhaps you remember one of the finest games ever to be released on the Amiga & C64.. Defender of the crown...... They're doing a remake! Check out all the details here.... I hope to hell it's as good as the original... One of the best games of all time..... With some great graphics and tunes.....

Hearing alot of talk lately about Conker's Bad Fur day... Apparently the only different and perhaps interesting game to ever see the light of day on the Nintendo gaming system... Check out the advert for it. :) Amazing what you can stick on TV eh? Thanks d0zer.

In other d0zer related news, eSports America has posted an overview of the Smackdown 2001 tournament that our buddies over at wearegamers.com hosted in London, Ont a short time ago.

Dman linked me up with the Unreal2 web site. My god. I want to make sweet love to this game engine. Thanks bud. I'll remember you at our wedding.

Multiple links today to report from the busy desktop of Iceman.

First off, all hail the ShopMac!! I knew they were crap.. but.. Ummmm.. Hmmm.... I can't really think of what to say about this one.

More news on the "We're frickin' idiots" wavelength, Christianity today brings us this enlightening article about video game violence and the terrible effects it has on people. Naturally I won't even go into violence and religion. *cough*crusades*cough*.

Ever wonder just how much bandwidth was getting used the night that Counter-Strike 1.1 was released? Someone's ISP has a VERY good idea. Apparently this kid posted it on his personal web site and pretty much killed the ISP's bandwidth. Ouchies.

Well... I really want Halo..... and these aliens are going to be hurting in about two seconds. :)

In other Halo news, snagged this link from Blue's News. Tons of Halo news, screenshots.

Chisel sent me a link to Hacker's Network.. Where they answer the question... Is Dungeons and Dragons really as evil as the world claims it is?

Jules learned everything about dancing and being cool from the internet... Ahhhh... Info on everything can be found if you just look hard enough!

Woohoo! Own a Maxtor hard drive? Want it to be faster than ever before? Maxtor has an interesting utility to speed things up! Take a boo. Kingpin gets credit for finding this one.

Anyhows.. THERE'S SOME NEWS FOR YAH! :)

Marauder out... For now.

Sorry for the lack of updates guys.. I've just been so damned busy, and especially with the planning and plotting for FRAGtopia 2(001)........ Just a quick news post here for today. We ARE going to start doing daily posts shortly.

Just got the Tribes 2 review up and posted. Take a look and lemme know what you think!

Dopper is officially my daddy. Due to his little bug fix article we've recieved over 5,700 hits in the last two days. Nice work Dop! :) That breaks our record for hits in one month. (Now if only we made any money on the site.....)

Dedicated Tribes 2 server is up and running. FRAGtopia/!FT! Just 4 Fun. Come.. Join us......

Marauder out, and gone for the long weekend. Cyah all when I get back!

Dopper

Got this kickass tribes2 clip in my e-mail from Sierra today, check it out! Man it Rocks! Warning Will Robinson! Danger! Danger! After viewing this clip it will take you directly to Sierras online order site...bah! Hit back on your browser to return to fragtopia! :)

We had a good fragtopia meeting last night. We've been busy working on Fragtopia 2001 as well as many other things lately, so that's why the news has been a bit slow.

Also discovered a fix that decreases the amount of red jacks I've been getting in tribes2. E-mailed Sierra tech support about the problem already and have been spreading the word. For info on the fix check here.

Dopper

Yesterday afternoon I got my tribes2 installed, yay! Just used a new copy since the problem I was having before was actually due to my cd key already being used. Someone had actually used the CDKEY already I found out after contacting Sierra Support. So I wont mention that persons name, he knows who he is and it wasn't intentional so I will forgive him...one day. :)

Anyhow, now that my tribes2 is working and I got to play it all last night I can highly recomment going out any buying it. I don't know how well it plays on dialup or with crappy computers and video cards but with my system (geforce DDR 32MB, 512MB pc133, P3 800) it runs great. The graphics are phenominal and the gameplay is going to be very different from tribes1. I think vehicles are going to be more usefull as well as everything else they've incorporated. This game is going to reflect more the way they intended tribes1 to be.

OWNAGE! Thanks to [OCSS]Reggin for sending me word that Acclaim Sports recently announced Blast Lacrosse for PlayStation Game Console! This will be the very first lacrosse video game I've seen created. For those who don't know what lacrosse is, it is a sport that was created by the Native Indians and is similar in some ways to hockey. Most people don't know much about lacrosse or even realize it is Canada's national sport. Box lacrosse is played indoors on a hockey rink during hockey offseason when the ice is gone and it's just concrete floor (in winter they lay down astro turf). The primary means of defense is cross checking. Yes, that means hitting the guy as hard as you can with your lacrosse stick. It's a great sport and I'm glad to see the past couple years it's been making it's way into the mainstream. I played box lacrosse for the Orangeville Northmen Organization for 7 years and then played Jr. B with the Georgetown Bulldogs for a year...at which point I converted from jock to computer geek but that's not the point. :) I'm a big fan of lacrosse and have been hoping for a lacrosse video game to be released since NHL '94 for the SNES was put out. We used to setup tournaments of NHL '94 teams with the 5 player adapter and talk about lacrosse and hopes for a lacrosse game to be released. Now one is finally coming out!!! Let's just hope it's as good as EA's NHL series of video games. PC users will be able to enjoy this game via BLEEM playstation emulator. For more information on lacrosse (LAX) visit http://www.lacrosse.org/ and the also check out bottom of the be-lax.com site for the LAX girl of the week. :) Here's the press release from acclaim:

Fast Paced Arcade-Style Game Features The National Lacrosse League's indoor Lacrosse Action

Glen Cove, NY (March 29, 2001) - Acclaim Sports, a division of Acclaim Entertainment, Inc. (NASAQ: AKLM), a worldwide interactive entertainment company, today announced that Blast Lacrosse(TM), the first ever lacrosse title in video game history, is in development and will be released this Spring on the PlayStation® game console.

Continuing the tradition of arcade-style sports games made popular for home console systems with the NBA JAM franchise, Blast Lacrosse will feature hard-hitting action with over-the-top, fast-paced game play.

"We are pleased to partner with Acclaim to bring the excitement of the National Lacrosse League to consumers for the first time in video game history, " said Jim Jennings, the Commissioner of the National Lacrosse League.

Blast Lacrosse will be a 5-on-5 arcade-style game with all the exciting stick-checks, open field collisions, and frantic, high-scoring action of professional indoor lacrosse. A Pick-Up-and-Play control system with "Turbo" and "On Fire" modes allows players to check harder, run faster, shoot quicker and to perform incredible special moves. Yawn.. Up far too late last night playing Tribes 2... again.... Have a few little pieces of Tribes 2 news:

First off, check this out. I took that from the new World OGL site just before Tribes 2 came out... Tribes 2 is indeed your daddy. :)

Speaking of World OGL, their Tribes 2 ladder is up and ready for signups, as is the Teamplay.net ladder. Got a Tribes 2 team? Getcher asses signed up!

Tribes 2 good. (In case you hadn't noticed.)

A few news items to clear out of my Iceman inbox: First off, it appears that Microsoft has finally released a new version of ME. It may not be any less buggy, but at least it's more honest about it's short comings! As well, I really like this sign. I have to get me one of these made up. :))

Praetorian informs me that Black & White just kicks ass.... I have yet to play it myself.... He seems strangely excited about teaching a giant ape thing to play fireman tho... Hmmmmmm......... Don't see him much anymore, starting to wonder if working full time has actually driven him over the gaming edge into madness.

We trying to decide on what's happening with the tourneys for FRAGtopia 2(001).... We need your input! Get into the forums and post your opinions, and what you'd like to see!

More in a bit.

Well Tribes 2 is here and it is a damned good game so far. I was right when I predicted that it would be a very different game than Tribes 1.... it sure is.

- Graphics are better
- Skiing is considerably slower, especially in heavy armor
- Turrets are MUCH harder to kill/continue to fire untill dead
- Harder to base rape, as gens & invs are now shielded
- New vehicles (Hmmmmmm... Broadsword bomber......) are really, really nice.
- New inventory system is VERY sweet, and much nicer than before
- Command map has MUCH more functionality
- Tutorials much more intuitive and usefull than before
- I love being able to change the barrels on my big turrets.. You can really give people some nasty shocks
- Cloak pack cheap, but good. :)

Overall, the game is one hellovalotta fun. But, as with all good things there are some issues: (Yes, even oreo cookies.)

- Shrike fighter is hard to control. (Probably just need practise)
- New waypointing system hard to see on the map, & on the hud. If something on the map needs someone to accept it, it's a little green triangle that's a complete bitch to see. They need to change it to a flashing red triangle, or something EASY to see. Same deal on your hud. You have to look around utill you see your waypoint.... Which is usually light green.. Bitch to see on maps with light grey/white/green terain. I'd like to see my main waypoint attached to my reticle. Also, if you have two waypoints near each other, they just blend over each other.. Very annoying.
- Login system. As Dopp pointed out below, the authentification system is a pain in the ass. Could hardly play the first night... Servers were all overloaded... Grrrrr. If you release a million copies of the game, your servers damned well be able to handle that kind of load.

I honestly think that Tribes 2 is closer to what the original dev team imagined Tribes 1 to be like, from everything I've read.

Get it, and let's play. 209.135.104.57 (FRAGtopia Just 4 Fun Server)

(Incidentally, I think it's kinda funny that people were doing reviews the first day the game is out.. I'll wait a week or so untill I've actually explored the game more....)

Marauder out.... for now....

Dopper

I did a news post last week and forgot to post it...so if you want to check it out it's now here.

Well I would be playing tribes2 right now, however I was very disappointed to see that right off the shelf, tribes2 already has major problems as you can see in screenshot1 and screenshot2. I am unable to create an account to play online. (*note* the "create an account" screenshot link was modified to hide my cdkey and password length)Also when I try to play solo/lan Tribes2 quits back to the desktop because I haven't yet setup an account and warrior name. I'm getting a cd key in use error and apparently it's a known "bug" that was shipped with the game as reported on the sierra & tribalwar websites. I've tried multiple names including random letters with no spaces or special characters and nothing seems to work. I've tried all the suggestions I've read on the forums and support sites as well with no luck. Apparently others have experienced the same problem and I've been informed that eventually "it just works". I've tried numerous times already and am giving up do to frustration. No this is not the beta version. This is the full retail version that got shipped out and cost about $65 canadian to purchase. I have nothing more to say about this game at this time except that I'm very disappointed and I don't recommend purchasing it until they fix the flaws. Hopefully something will be done to make up for the inconvenience and disappointment this has caused. What a horrible first impression of what looks to be a great game.

Marauder (ICQ #: 12419781)

Blue just pointed out to me that Tribes 2 will be in our hot little hands tomorrow...... And it's just like Christmas Eve and soooo.....

'Twas the night before Tribes 2, when all though the house,
not a gamer was sleeping, they were as twitchy as a mouse (hey, i'm not a frickin' poet, OK?)
The car keys were hung by the front door, along with a reciept from EB,
And the knowledge that 10 long hours seperate us from much Tribes 2 glee.

Gah. Ok, I give up at this point. :) Tribes 2 tomorrow boyoos! :)

Posted a little write up on what Tribes 1 means/meant to me. Check it out here. (Hey! We got mentioned on Tribal War. :)

Plans continue for FRAGtopia 2(001)

No we're not dead. :) I know updates are taking a loooong time right now, but I have an excuse!

We're working on stuff. Dopper has 3 reviews almost ready to go. (HURRY UP DOPPER! TIMES A WASTIN'!) Rune foolishly moved to an area without internet (BBwhahahhaha.) And I'm working on a review for Undying... Wow.. What a game. I'm also working on the new site for FRAGtopia 2(001) - The Party. It'll be up and running within a few days. Really looking forward to this year's party, I think it's gonna be a riot. :)

Will try to get back on the updates, just as soon as I get the new site done. :) Thanks to everyone who's been sending in news... I'll get it all posted ASAP.

Since Tribes2 has gone gold I've been informed I'm no longer bound by the terms of the NDA so I'm going to post a bit about my chance previewing it and helping work out some bugs since I was on the beta team in December '2000..check out a very brief preview of tribes2 here. (mostly just screenshots)

15) Logic used to cycle the map has been changed. The map will cycle if one of three conditions has been met: "mp_timelimit" has been met, "mp_winlimit" rounds have been won by one of the teams, or "mp_maxrounds" have been played.
16) Fixed many cheats
17) Changed logging format to meet the standars @ http://www.hlstats.org/logs/

Also the new Half-Life patch has been released (version 1.1.0.6.) which includes:

1) New player models for Team Fortress.
2) New Half-Life deathmatch map included (Rapidcore).
3) New 'stat' command that shows the same information as the 'status' command, but is formatted for the screen and log file.
4) new variable, hpk_maxsize, that will allow servers and clients to set the maxsize of the "custom.hpk" file. Once that size has been exceded the file is automatically deleted. The cvar is set for size in megabytes. hpk_maxsize 0, is no maxsize. hpk_maxsize 1.5 is a file maxsize of 1.5 megabytes.
5) Added a new server variable for TFC, tfc_spectchat, that will allow the server to regulate whether or not spectators can chat with players in the game. When set to 0, spectators can only chat with other spectators. When set to anything but 0, spectators can chat with everyone in the game.

13) Changed what types of map resource files can be downloaded using .res files (to help mod authors). We've changed from what types of files ARE allowed to what types of files AREN'T allowed.
14) Fixed a TFC bug where players could teamkill by shooting a rocket/grenade at a teammate and switching to specator mode.
15) Fixed the "adm_deal", "adm_next", and "next" TFC commands to properly cycle through the players in the server.

Finally, some cool stuff gets released! Red Leader informs me that Counter-Strike 1.1 & a new Half Life patch just came out. Go get 'em.

You all of course know about 3D Mark '99 & 2000 right? The coolest little benchmarks/demos ever to grace our monitors? 2001 is out, and OH MY GOD. The demo mode is a little short but... wow.... well worth the download and running. Just blew me right outta the water.

Tribes 2 will be in stores in about 2 weeks as well.. Finally!

More later if I have time. :)

Marauder (ICQ #: 12419781)

Morning all, finally have some time to post some news!

First off, if you didn't take the time out to go read the specs on the NV20/GeForce 3 specs & watch the tech demos, go do it... NOW......Oh. My. God. Must have $700 video card that nothing will be released for for a year... Gahhhh.......

Tankgirl over at Digital Extremes (The guys behind the UT engine.) just sent me a quick press release & a preview link for a new game called "Adventure Pinball".....Now... Ummmm........ I'm not a big pinball fan... In fact I really, REALLY don't like pinball...... It's usually a stupid mindless little game... But the eye candy should be good on this one, and it actually has a plot, which I do find intriging. And it's based on the UT engine... Interesting what you can do sometimes. :) What's next, Quake III based tetris? Anyhow, might be an interesting game to watch out for.

Adventure Pinball: Forgotten Island Goes Gold
Publisher: EA
Developer: Digital Extremes London, Ontario.

March 5th, 2001 - Digital Extremes is pleased to announce that the Unreal Engine-based 3D action pinball game, Adventure Pinball: Forgotten Island has gone gold. Scheduled for release March 20, 2001, Adventure Pinball offers exciting 3D action, providing a variety of challenges accentuated by an entertaining story. More than just an arcade-style pinball game, Adventure Pinball takes the player through a 3D world of dinosaurs and cavedwellers, interweaving colourful landscapes and harrowing escapades with traditional gameplay.
- Classic pinball concepts are taken to a new level using the Unreal engine
- 3D animated characters, multiple ball power-ups, and goal-oriented gameplay
- Original soundtrack provides an immersive sound experience
- Unlock the levels in storymode
- Four-player hot seat multiplay

Digital Extremes, co-developer of Unreal and Unreal: Tournament, made its first foray into the gaming scene with best-selling Epic Pinball. Founded in 1995, DE is a developer of PC and Console games and is located in London, Ontario.

Still waiting for the PVK guys to get off their duffs and finish up their site so I can get my paws on the new release and post the interview Monkeyboy was nice enough to send me. :)

Thanks to all the guys who sent me over CS screenshots. I'll get them posted shortly.

Dopper, Red Leader & Nolman are headed to Smackdown in London this weekend for some sweet, sweet CS action. I'd love to go, but regretably Kingpin & myself are going to be ref'ing at Skyball in Toronto Friday & Saturday. So we'll all be out of comunications for a few days. They're going to need a 5th player, so if you don't suck as much as I do, get in touch with Dopper. If you get bored & want to see a bunch of guys playing a real first person shooter, Skyball will have a webcam up and running the 9th & 10th. Take a peek. :)

You know, it amazes me when I check the page referals.... some of the stuff people search for and find us.... Check this out. Gah.

Again we need help. Yes, the mental kind and also the kind from nice people who want to write reviews, news, rants and general opinionating. Got an attitude? We need you! Let me know.

Marauder outta here.....for now.
